Being in business, in this wild, digital world, can be a crazy puzzle and sometimes not all the pieces fit. The pieces can include social media, and all those different channels, search engine optimisation (SEO), website development, website hosting, digital marketing, training and development. The list can go on, but let’s start there. What you need is a total package, of all the above, which gives you results, and has very little sky pieces, which are so tricky to put together.
Imagine this- you’re a start-up business, or a long time bricks and mortar business, and you’ve been thinking about getting a website for a while now. One weekend at a barbecue, one of your nephews tells you all about the advantages of being online, having a website, hosting, domains, shopping carts, and cookies. It is all confusing, but his enthusiasm is such that you finally think to yourself- yes, I want a website.
You’ve opened your shop on a Monday morning, had the beginning of the week rush, and it is near lunchtime, so you take five minutes out to think some more about having a website. Your first thought- how much is it going to cost?
For those who know me, or who work with me, you know that I really like using WordPress. It is a Content Management System, it is a blogging environment, it is free, and has a bunch of great plugins which allow you to do a wide range of functions. Some of my favourites include WordPress SEO by Yoast, Gravity Forms, Monarch social media integration plugin and many more.
I have watched online forums argue the merits of a WordPress site, followed by a designer lauding their own custom built CMS as being superior and better, and the one you MUST buy and you MUST have them build it for you.

When you are in business for yourself, or a small business with other people, often the brand and vision you begin with changes over time. And this is not a bad thing. You determine where your brand feels strongest, what you love doing the most, and where your target audience lays. You also discover that being in business and doing everything can be very tiring and disheartening. You need to be true to yourself, which will give you a much more powerful and honest branding experience.
I have been in business now, for myself, as a digital marketer, for three years. I am not the same person I was three years ago. I love digital marketing, don’t get me wrong, but I have discovered I love teaching, mentoring and sharing what I know with others.
It’s my birthday!
I love January. It is a New Year, we’ve just partied, and we’re making new friends, new resolutions and new goals for ourselves, our lives and our businesses. Plus, January is when my birthday is. This means I am a Capricorn, not an Aquarian.
I know there are a lot of people out there who think astrology is a whole bunch of mumbo jumbo. But I like to think of it as a playful guide. I don’t run my life by the stars, but I think there is some cool stuff behind the star signs. A friend I know, a writer, who is a Gemini, is such a Gemini he is annoying. Or he is just annoying anyway? Who knows, but it is fun to say it’s because he is a Gemini.
Why Wix Sux
In this digital age, the keystone to your digital marketing and promoting empire is your website. If you don’t have even the simplest of web footprints, you are missing out on so much sales potential.
There are a lot of options when it comes to getting yourself a website. You can spend a few hundred dollars for a site which has common elements plugged into a backend, to many thousands of dollars getting yourself a professional and slick looking website. And the service and results you get from spending all this money can be anywhere from totally fantastic to frustratingly slow and laboured.
