Last month, I had the pleasure of attending my first meeting as a member of the Maroondah Business Association (MBA). As the owner of a full-service marketing agency, specializing in providing a range of marketing services for small and medium sized businesses I have wanted to join this support network for awhile. The forum’s topic included a panel of expert speakers, discussing how business owners should pay themselves a wage in 2014 and I was hooked from the first word!
Although each speaker came from different industries, it was clear that similarities between them existed. For one, it was clear that mentoring and coaching played an important role in assisting them to get to where they wanted to go. This really peaked my interest as this is one aspect I have been thinking about for awhile. When you run a small business. no one tells you how lonely it can be. At times it has been extremely hard and in some instances I’ve almost waned to give up. But fortunately, I’m not the type to give up and thankfully Vent2Me continues to grow! After hearing from successful business owners, I am now confident that employing the services of a mentor/coach would be of benefit to the growth of my company and me as an individual.
The other item of discussion, that was of particular interest, was having a clear end game in mind. Why are you in business? What do you want out of it? For me, I run Vent2Me because I want to see businesses succeed with what they do best. I believe businesses shouldn’t focus on aspects they don’t specialize in. For instance, I am not a bookkeeper/accountant and therefore I do not try to complete my books, instead I employ the services of an accountant to complete these aspects for me.
Do you agree with this? We’d love for you to share your thoughts with us regarding the benefits of hiring a mentor/coach or having clear end game in sight.
Until next time,
