Every month or so we will upload and discuss a faux pas of an organisation. It will be a fun and interesting way to shed light on the issue of service marketing.
In this edition, we will focus on the recent incorrect online advert that was shown on Optus Webmail on 17th of April 2011.
As you can see below the advert is for Kmart. It was advertising why Kmart is the best place to shop for Christmas – which would have been perfect if it was December!
We have heard of Christmas in July, but Christmas in April? Surely this must be a mistake. We wonder whether Optus charged Kmart for any click throughs when clearly it was a mistake on their end.
Why it’s a faux pas is because a) Optus online advertising is a service that should only show adverts that are relevant for the time of year and its target audience – clearly in this example Optus got this seriously wrong.
b) The advert made Kmart look seriously out of touch and stupid. Although it’s clearly a mistake from Optus’ end, it stil made the team at Vent2Me laugh at Kmart. Which is something that no brand wants to endure!
Have you seen any organisational faux pas recently? If you have share them with us – we would love to see them!
Until next time,
